Comparison Between Profhilo And Traditional Skin Boosters

The new skin injectable compared to traditional skin boosters – What makes Profhilo® special?

Skin boosters play an important role in aesthetics medicine. It’s a relatively simple form of enhancing your skin via injections. Their effectiveness has made them enormously successful, with several well-known, established brands in the market like Restylane, Juverderm and Teosyal. Despite the established market, a new skin injectable product has made a name for itself, and is highly popular in aesthetic clinics among both doctors and consumers alike. What is Profhilo®, and how does it compare to the traditional skin boosters offered by esteemed brands like Restylane, Juverderm and Teosyal?

Traditional skin boosters and Hyaluronic acid

Like the name suggests, skin boosters are skin injectables which “boost” the conditions of your skin.

Skin boosters consist largely of hyaluronic acid (also known as hyaluronan or just “HA”) as their main component. This is a naturally occurring molecule in our skin which is vital in key regenerative processes. HA helps retain moisture, naturally boosting the skin hydration, and also stimulates collagen production in the dermis.

In general, HA based skin boosters have the following effects:

  • Improving skin hydration
  • Boosting natural skin rejuvenation processes
  • Firmer, more elastic and supple skin
  • Brighter skin tone

What is Profhilo®, and what makes it unique?

Like traditional skin boosters, Profhilo® is made from HA. However, there is an important distinction that make it a truly unique product: Patented NAHYCO™ thermal complexes.

One of the key features which set Profhilo® apart from traditional skin boosters is the use of the patented NAHYCO™ thermal complexing technology. This technology allows low-molecular weight HA (L-HA) and high-molecular weight HA (H-HA) to form stable complex together without the use of additional chemical stabilisers.

This gives Profhilo® several unique advantages over traditional skin boosters, such as:

1. Combines effects of both L-HA and H-HA for skin Bio-Remodelling

In general, L-HA is better at stimulating collagen and elastin production while H-HA retains moisture more effectively. This is a trade-off that most, if not all other traditional skin boosters have to consider. However, by complexing both L-HA and H-HA in the same product, Profhilo® manages to combine the advantages of L-HA and H-HA in a single syringe, setting it apart from other similar products. Because of this, Profhilo® cannot be considered a traditional skin booster. Instead, by combining these 2 effects, Profhilo® rejuvenates the skin in an entirely new way: Bio-Remodelling of skin elastin and collagen.

2. High purity – no chemical additives

NAHYCO™ thermal complexing technology has allowed Profhilo® to deliver a high quality, pure HA injectable unlike any other. All other traditional skin boosters with HA complexes have added chemical stabilisers like 1,4-Butanediol diglycidyl ether (BDDE) to improve their shelf life. Even though these additives are generally regarded to be safe, they may still cause unintended side effects. NAHYCO™ thermal complexes truly makes Profhilo® the first of its kind: A pure-HA injectable that combines the effects of both L-HA and H-HA.

3. Highest HA content on the market

In addition, eliminating the need for chemical additives means that more HA can be included in a single syringe of Profhilo®. Each 2ml syringe of Profhilo® contains 32mg/ml of HA in total, giving it the highest concentration of HA on the market.

(For comparison, Restylane has 20mg/ml HA , Teosyal has 15mg/ml, while Juverderm has 13mg/ml)

4. Fewer injections – Less downtime

Because of the high concentration of HA, Profhilo® is also administered slightly differently than traditional skin boosters, with fewer injections needed.

Skin boosters are generally injected throughout the treatment area in small, precise amounts using a microinjector gun, each injection being 1 to 2 cm apart. Their effects are usually concentrated near the point of each injection and hence, need to be evenly distributed throughout the whole face to achieve the optimal effects. Because of this, skin booster procedures may take around 30 injections or more depending on the individual.

Although it can be administered in other ways, Profhilo® is most effective when a specifically developed technique is used. This protocol involves injection of 0.2ml of Profhilo® each into 10 specific Bio-Aesthetic Points (BAPs) – points on the face which are ideal for Profhilo® injections based on the musculature, bone and skin structure of the face. Injected Profhilo® at these points will naturally spread out over several days to weeks to provide enhanced hydration to the entire treatment area, all with just 10 injections. BAPs maximise the effective of Profhilo® while minimising the number of injections and the dosage needed.

Because fewer injections are needed, Profhilo® has much less downtime compared to other skin boosters. While skin boosters may cause up to a week of bruising after treatment, Profhilo® typically has less than 2 days, or no downtime at all.

Conclusion

Even in the face of well-established brands like Restylane, Juverderm and Teosyal, Profhilo® managed to carve its place in the market of skin injectables with its unique features. As a skin Bio-Remodelling injectable, it is truly distinct from the other products and definitely something to look into if you are familiar with traditional skin boosters.
